Stylish & Trendy Sun Protection
We cannot understate the importance of protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays. Exposure to UVA and UVB radiation, either from the sun or tanning beds, can lead to eye conditions and diseases like:
- Cataracts: your risk of developing cataracts increases with sun exposure. Proper eye protection and hands can help protect you.
- Eye cancer: there are several types of eye cancer. Your risk increases when you’re exposed to UV radiation.
- Growths on or near the eye: a pinguecula is a yellowish, raised growth on the conjunctiva. It’s a deposit of protein, fat, or calcium. A pterygium is a growth of fleshy tissue that can grow out over the cornea. Both growths are believed to be caused by a combination of UV light, wind, and dust.
- Photokeratitis: is damage to the cornea and conjunctiva from the sun’s UV rays and is much like having a sunburn on your eye. It can be caused by sun reflection on sand, water, ice, and snow. It can also be caused by man-made sources of UV light, like tanning beds or arc welding.
